Quality story, quality characters, legacies, and doing more than the same old thing over and over.

Quality Characters and stories? DC is so inconsistent it makes me laugh sometimes. Final Crisis for 1. Superman is inconsistent as well. His weaknesses fluctuate from series to series. One day Magic is a weakness, the next it's not.

This is from an outside perspective, though. School me if you want.  :focus:

I'll puke, eat it and freak you. Battle? I'm too weeded to speak to. The only key I see to defeat you would be for me to remove these two Adidas and beat you. Force feed you them both and on each feet is a cleet shoe.

For 1, Darkseid. How many showing with him have been consistent?

From a research perspective, Superman has indeed changed over the years, and his weaknesses vary from story to story.

But in the past several years and storylines, Superman has been rather consistent.   Of course you'll have different power levels in stories with all different types of writers, but that's no different than you'll find with Captain America or Spider-Man.
Aquaman.  We all need him.    More than we know.

^^I co-sign this (Even the power levels of Hulk and Sentry are WAY inconsistent if we go by inconsistencies). But there are also things that explain those inconsistencies (I love Grant Morrison for those things).

My question is what about Darkseid on Final Crisis constituted an inconsistency?

Ok. He was tearing down reality....and then gets shot by a human with a gun. An all powerful being like that should have disintegrated the gun with a though and crushed the miracle machine with his bare hands.

previous to that showing he was whopped by beings way less powerful than him...Superman as an example

previous to that he whopped the same guy

previous to that he fell down stairs and previous to that he was robbed by street thugs.

If that not inconstant....I don't know what is.

Then DC has The Blackest Night. You guys might like it...but to me it's pretty dumb. 15 cereal box ring Corps? It reminds me of Gangs of New york with the 15 Fire Fighter Brigades.

Like I said - school me and I'll shut up. I just don't see how DC even sells comics.

Spiderman is always Spiderman. His weaknesses never change and writers keep it that way. Cap America is always owning people way beyond him, Always. That's consistent.

Cap fighting fairly evenly with Spider-Man vs  Cap judo throwing Terrax seems like a major change.  But Gabe brought an even better point of Sentry and Hulk.  Could spawn a whole other thread of inconsistencies in Marvel VS DC, so i'll leave it at that.

At the end of the day, DC will still remain the Distinguished Competition.

Ok, well first I would like to have a civil discussion, if you are just going to react blindly and saying that Spider-Man and Captain America's cases are different than Superman's just because they are in Marvel and Supes is in DC then there is no need to discuss anything.

Before the actual talk, did you READ Final Crisis? All 7 parts and I do not mean reviews or summaries, I mean the story in whatever form? If you did not, then we are going to have trouble, because the story is quite complex and you cannot just go by what you read in a summary.

Let's talk about Darkseid first on Final Crisis, you are aware that at the beginning of Final Crisis it is stated that all the New Gods have become etheral and incorporeal, and that now they require a host body, right?

So Darkseid could be inhabiting the body, but the body was still human. That is the first point.

Second point, when Batman shoots Darkseid, the substance that the bullet is made of is Radion which is poisonous to ALL the New Gods.

Third, Darkseid did not fall down any stairs and he was not robbed by thugs on Final Crisis, so I have no idea what you are referring to there

I'd rather read about Cap stalemating Spidey, then tossing Terrax (who's never won a fight anyway) than Superman singing into a machine to beat a uber powerful New God any day.

So Darkseid could be inhabiting the body, but the body was still human. That is the first point.

Second point, when Batman shoots Darkseid, the substance that the bullet is made of is Radion which is poisonous to ALL the New Gods.

I'm civilized, dude. Don't take offense to what I say. Again, School me and I'll shut up. This is the impression DC has given me.

Anyway, I didn't read it, no. But I know enough about it to retort.

Darkseid inhabits a human-like body - ok. Does that mean his powers no longer exist and he can't do the stuff he's done in previous comics? He can't OE Batman before he pulls the trigger? Plus..since when does Batman Kill?

Second, - so? Darkseid is weak to radeon. IIRC he knew Batman had the gun. He knows Batman has access to radeon and he's got the power to level the entire ground of which the heroes were standing on. Are you saying he let Batman shoot him? that's even worse.

Third - Those examples were before FC - which solidifies my "inconsistent DC" argument. From series to series DC flops all over the place.

You guys want to argue about this? Take it to the USH Tower. Otherwise, let's keep the topic on subject.

We're not arguing. We're discussing why we feel DC or Marvel is our favorite comic company and why they aren't. But if you say so, Cap. :drinks:

Claims of Final Crisis Darkseid appearing much more impressively than previous appearances are pretty moot for a couple of staple comics book reasons.

One is that as a character and their story progresses, you have to accept that they've fought their battles, had their losses, and grown for it all.  There will be a natural progression that will show a change from previous versions.  With the nature of the stories and vast differences in training, experiences, and stories there can't really be a power jump or decrease that is "unreasonable" or "inconsistent" as the proper story and writer literally can explain it or put it into perspective.

And to get back on topic, that is the part of the industry that makes it attractive.  Just because you're on the top, doesn't mean you'll stay there, and just because you're at the bottom, doesn't mean you can't shoot up (Roy Harper joke, anyone???).  The fluctuating nature of the threats that heroes face is what makes getting every issue exciting, because you'll never know who you'll face and how it will be challenging.  It's how you can take the Hawkeyes and have them next to Hulk, or have Darkseid beat by Batman.

You're hard pressed to find lasting "inconsistencies" in an ever changing industry.  So you read what you enjoy and leave the rest on the rack.
